Lupita Nyong’o in Prada, Kirsten Dunst in Rodarte, Naomi Watts in Givenchy Haute Couture, Cara Delevingue in Stella McCartney.
At first glance, this past Monday’s Met Costume Institute Gala looks confused me… but when I broke them into a couple of themes, it all made sense! The official theme was “Charles James: Beyond Fashion,” which I think was best exhibited by all of the lovely Zac Posen gowns with amazingly large skirts with tubular pieces. I wish I could have explained that better! The Marchesa dress worn by Karolina Kurkova had a similar look, but with two tiers and a beautiful floral motif. It was just stunning—something out of a (very chic) Disney dream. There was also some fabulous minimalist color-blocking going on with team Stella McCartney and Emma Stone, but I thought the most pleasantly surprising looks of the night were Lupita Nyong’o in Prada and Kirsten Dunst in Rodarte. Even though I feel like everything Lupita wears is automatically hailed as the best thing ever, this Prada dress really took it up a notch. Look at her twirl! And for Kirsten, I was just SO glad to see that someone wore a piece from the Star Wars themed Rodarte collection.
