My Chic Pet

Clockwise from left: Mungo & Maud Cotton Rope Mouse Toy $13.92, Kittypod Prrrounge Vanity Plate Maple and Acrylic Cat Perch $66.99, Kittypod Mini Cardboard Scratching Post $108.99, American Apparel California Fleece Dog Vest $2 (Orig. $12), Crate & Barrel White Dog Bowl $10.95 (Orig. $14.95), Vanessa Mitrani No Limits Fish Bowl (priced upon request).

OKAY—I don’t have any pets. It’s a sad reality that there isn’t enough room in any 20-something’s New York City apartment to house one. This is particularly true for my small studio. SO how do you make your pet a little bit cooler, but not overtly hipster or douchey looking? I’m sure we can all agree that we’ve seen those dogs walking with their owners down Park Avenue in ridiculously chic fleeces and shiny coats. TOO MUCH. Or the super hipster dogs on the Lower East Side that somehow annoy you even though there’s no way they’ll ever be able to ride a fixie. I think the solution for a chic pet is keeping it cute and simple. Try Mungo & Maud for a sweetly knit red mouse or American Apparel for a plain puppy tracksuit—perfectly simply. Can’t wait to get a puppy or kitty of my own to dress and play with. Maybe I’ll start small with a fish—check out Renee’s fish, Pierre!
